Jokingly referred to as the Oscars of the design world, the @DesignMuseum ’s Designs of the Year 2013 exhibition spans fashion, product, digital and architecture. City by City previewed this year’s nominees, which include Thomas Heatherwick’s Olympic Cauldron, Nike’s Fly Knit trainer and Marni’s hand-woven chairs.
WGSN’s highlights ranged from ColaLife, an anti- diarrhoea kit inspired by Coca Cola. Based on the reality that Coca Cola is more readily available than basic medicine in many developing countries, non-profit organisation @colalife developed a medical package, transportable within Coca Cola crates.
To an augmented reality app, which displays animations of cartoon woodland creatures when scanned over any product displaying the readable algorithm – in this case, porcelain plates!

East London design collective Bread have just completed a week of hand painting to decorate London’s Hackney Wick with a long line of murals celebrating the history of the area.
Strange phrases like Fridge Mountain, Pickles and The Cut now adorn the strip of wall down White Post Lane - and the meaning of each phrase can be found on the collective’s dedicated blog. Fantastic for typographic inspiration.
Tammy Shemesh attended the Tadasana Yoga Festival in Santa Monica in honor of Earth Weekend. Key inspirational lifestyle trends were neon and psychedelic prints. Our favorite item was yoga pants made from recycled plastic bottles.
